Strategies
Deploy a multi-prong national strategy for offering small
businesses and enterprise customers unmatched breadth and depth of
national broadband coverage and service options.
Drive sales and revenue growth by offering diverse business-class
broadband access and transport services through multiple wholesale,
direct, and alternate distribution channels. Maintain diverse
revenue streams.
Focus on high-speed Internet DSL access and data communications.
Later overlay other value-added broadband services as these develop.
Differentiate on positive customer experiences.
Remain access technology agnostic and operate a carrier-class
national backbone network based on IP and Asynchronous Transfer
Mode, or ATM, technology. Own and operate the switching equipment;
lease network transport and collocation spaces.
Pursue opportunistic acquisitions of stranded broadband customers
or network assets that contribute to revenue growth and cash flow.
Thrive and grow in the face of economic and telecom downturns.
Achievements
Within our first three years, we raised $350 million of invested
equity from top-tier private venture firms, global financial
institutions, and worldwide technology firms through a demonstrated
track record of performance. We raised more than 75 percent of total
equity after March, 2000 (the beginning of a major economic
downturn).
We built one of the largest carrier-class ATM backbone
communications networks with 18 regional hubs in major cities and
almost 600 nodes in small and midsize towns. During 2000, we
installed and activated at a rate equivalent to 1.5 DSL switches (DSLAMs)
per day.
We created one of the widest distribution networks with hundreds of
wholesale, direct and indirect reseller partners, agents, value-add
resellers, systems integrators, and referral dealers.
New Edge launched high-speed dedicated Internet access in 27
major cities in 19 states plus the District of Columbia, creating a
third major source of company revenue in addition to DSL and WAN
services.
We acquired customers and network assets from distressed
broadband providers and successfully integrated affected customers,
averting planned service shutdowns in the aftermath of the telecom
meltdown.
